The Golden Eras: Celebrating the Best of Seventies, Eighties, and Modern Classics At The Tempe Car Meet 2024

Having grown up around cars all my life and having perfected my art in car detailing, paint correction and paint protection treatments, you tend to get carried away with work at times that you forget why you are even involved in it, and that of course it is for the pure pleasure of being able to drive the machines we own and enjoy them and of course take them to car shows in Sydney. Car meets in Sydney these days are everywhere. Take your pick where you want to go and view some machines that you do not often see.

I have to admit that although it sounds show offish, I grew up in the 80’s which was the best time of my life and many reading this post would agree with that comment. I actually spent ten years in Tempe with a young family back then and use to hang out at what use to be Denos Diner which is now Harry’s Cafe De Wheels. I had seen a defect or two back then let me tell you. Every time there was car show in Sydney, there was a Cop show. Boys in blue were never too far out of reach.

That time back then with car shows in Sydney was really rough with cops and us young boys with high-performance modified cars but I have to admit, today is far worse with our driving laws. From Toranas to classic GT’S to FPV’s and WRX’s, there was quite a mix of cars that turned up which made it all that more enjoyable.

There was good food about and the old ice cream truck which charged a fortune for the smallest possible Ice creams he could offer. Isn’t that the way these days? Everybody selling food is worried about your waistline but they don’t mind leaving your account balance much thinner than it needs to be.

If there is one thing I have a gripe about is the mobile food services that turn up usually do not provide their services in abundance for what they charge but each to their own. We don’t really go there for food anyway so be prepared to pay if you do.

A Timeless Exhibition: Iconic Seventies, Eighties, and Late Model Cars in the Spotlight

Many of the vehicles that turned up were in pretty good Nic with great paint jobs and some pretty scary looking engines. Not all cars of course had 50pus kay spent on them beven the average car was well kept and presentableThat traditional sound of a heavy thumping V8 or rotor is so highly respected by guys who got their licenses in the 80’s.

If you grew up from the 70’s 80’d and 90’s with just having got your drivers license to drive and you bought your first car and lived in the Marrickville area, you had  a rage of a time growing up, You all now who you are.

Me personally, I had just become a dad in 92 but that didn’t stop me from doing up cars and still going to most car shows in the area, especially for cruises to La Perouse, Wollongong or what we use to call the tailgate from the local Saturday night hangout.

The cars on show in Tempe were the cars that use to haunt the streets before the turn of the century and to see so many of these classics brought back in one car show brought back some great memories of my youth and my early days of where I was learning to details cars.

The GT pictured here with the Torana just above were some of the most common cars back in  the 80’s.

The GT picture here you could have picked up for about 30-50K depending on what it had done to it and whether or not it was restored or just kept as original as possible. Nobody predicted in the 80’s or 90’s that one day a Replica GT would be worth in excess of 100K or a cool half mil for a genuine HO

One of my buddies called me ands tells me there is a car show at Tempe and if I wanted to go down to jump in the car and go have a look.I was actually working at the time not to mention that I was not in the mood for going anywhere but then it was on my mind so I decided

I was under the impression it was just a msucle car turn out but the car show itself was on show with more than just muscle cars. Included were four bangers, six turbos and even a GT3 Porsche .

It’s what car shows are all about I guess, even for the old farts of today.

We don’t forget where we came from and it is really good to see some of us are hanging onto our youth. We don’t do much or anywhere much but our rides compensate for all of that and when we have these car meets in Sydney, it just reminds us of who we are and where we came from.

The car show at Tempe wasn’t very large but the calibre of the cars that attended was impressive, whether the cars were stock, modified, classic or late model.

I carried out what I like to call a finessing treatment which was a mild paint correction treatment using just finishing pads in order to maximise the car shine, then followed through with a polish and a synthetic paint protection seal which I pretty much keep for myself these days.

Once the sealer was on, the car was complete with an awesome shine ready for the car show. This is a treatment I  carry out roughly once every three to five years and it works well. Being a toy and garaged most of the time, the treatment lasts a long time. I even carried out the same treatment on my own FPV .If you have a paint job that is on point and what it really needs is a treatment to just makle it pop, this is it. All in all, it was a pleasant afternoon at the Tempe car meet and many enjoyed themselves.
