Best Tips To Keeping Your New Car Shine For A Long Time
The average paint correction or car paint restoration costs from about 1100 to 3K Plus for serious paint correction repair work. We have been providing car detailing in Campbelltown for over twenty years and we have seen it all when it comes to car paint.
It is not uncommon for a paint correction treatment to go around the 5K mark. You’ve invested in professional paint correction, and your car now looks as good as new.
But the journey doesn’t end there! Maintaining your car’s freshly corrected paint is crucial to keeping it glossy and protected for the long term.
In this guide, we’ll share practical tips to ensure your car’s paint stays flawless, along with why ongoing maintenance is the key to preserving your vehicle’s stunning finish. Remember, paint correction work is permanent. How long it lasts largely depends on your care with your paintwork.
I have repaired hundreds of cars in my time as a paint correction specialist and it never ceases to amaze me the transformations that take place. It should be every car detailers

1. Wash Your Car the Right Way
It takes hours to perform paint correction the right way and produce mirror finish results. The last thing you want to do is get careless with your new showroom finish and destroy it all. You paid good money to achieve the results you have, and your car detailer broke his back giving it to you.
Improper washing techniques are one of the most common causes of swirl marks and scratches. To avoid damaging your paint:
- Use Two Buckets: One for soapy water and one for rinsing your wash mitt. This reduces the chance of dirt particles scratching the paint.
- Choose a Microfiber Wash Mitt: Avoid sponges, as they can trap dirt and create scratches.
- Dry with Care: Always use a clean, soft microfiber towel for drying. Avoid air drying, which can leave water spots.

After paint correction, your car’s surface is primed for protection. Adding a protective layer ensures the paint stays safe from the elements.
It takes a great deal of knowledge and work to complete the results you have on your car’s paintwork when it is done.
The best thing I can recommend after this is done is to apply car paint protection to lock in that magnificent shine. This will protect your car paint and preserve that shine for a very long time..
- Wax: A traditional and affordable option that adds shine and basic protection.
- Ceramic Coating: Ceramic coatings for cars offer superior protection against UV rays, water spots, and dirt while lasting longer than wax.
- Paint Sealant: A durable alternative to wax that provides long-lasting protection. Not as long-lasting as long-term ceramic paint protection for cars but better lasting than wax. The ceramic coating for cars however is the best for longevity
Don’t Park Near Other Morons At Shopping Centres. Especially Next To Dented Up Shitboxes
Where you park your car can significantly impact its paint longevity. To minimise damage, start walking. Yes, that is right, start walking. Stop looking for the spot closest to the entry doors of shopping centres.
That is where every moron who doesn’t care about their car wants to park. If you love your car, and you are not a moron, you will park, way away from other cars.
This just doesn’t stop surface scratches from happening, but it stops dents as well, trolley scratches, the mum with five kids in tow in the SUV who open their doors without a care in the world while happily endowing your car with door dents as well.. Now, that I have had my rant:
- Avoid Direct Sunlight: Prolonged exposure to the sun’s UV rays can fade your car’s paint over time.
- Stay Away from Trees: Tree sap and bird droppings can be acidic and harm your paint.
- Garage Storage: If possible, park in a garage or covered area for maximum protection.
- Again, to minimise all these risks or eliminate them buy a ceramic paint protection coating for your car
4. Use a Car Cover for Long-Term Protection
If you don’t have access to covered parking, invest in a high-quality car cover. This protects your vehicle from:
- Dust and debris from sitting on it
- UV rays from burning it
- Bird droppings and tree sap from etching it
- Minor scratches from external contacts, like morons with a 0 care factor.
The only problem with car covers is that not everyone can have them for the simple reason that if your car cover is expensive and of decent quality, it will suddenly grow legs and walk away if your car is parked outside because you do not have a garage.
Either way, if it is parked outside, it only needs to be good enough to stop direct sunlight and animal matter from falling on it, and you’ll be good with protecting your paintwork.
If it does get stolen, it will have not cost you much. This leaves you with the only option of looking for a ceramic coating expert for cars to apply paint protection
5. Regular Maintenance is Key
Yes, regular washing keeps a clean surface. When I say regular, I mean once every couple of weeks if it has been dry or after it rains. Regular upkeep helps maintain a nice shine.
It doesn’t take much to wash a car, just apply common sense. For one, don’t go through car washes. Car washes are what I like to refer to as the fast food franchises of car washes. Fast turnaround with shit quality.
They are what I would call Scratch N Go rather than a car wash. A car wash is not supposed to destroy your car’s paint, but coffee car washes, automated car washes, and touchless washes, all do.
Keeping up with routine maintenance ensures your car continues to look its best:
- Touch-Up Washes: Wash your car at least once every two weeks to prevent the buildup of dirt and grime.
- Reapply Protective Coatings: Reapply wax every 2-3 months
- Ceramic Coating Application: If you already have a ceramic coating, just wash and dry. You should also find that it washes much easier.
- Quick Spot Cleaning: Remove bird droppings, tree sap, and bug splatter as soon as possible to avoid etching. Ceramic coatings prolong this problem.
6. Avoid All Types Of Car Washes
We already stated this but a little more in-depth will help. While they’re convenient, most automatic car washes use harsh brushes and chemicals that can damage your paint. Stick to handwashing for a safer, more effective clean. You have to remember, that car washes use recycled water. They filter the dirt, not acids.
Car washes don’t pay to buy the best filtering systems, just enough to filter dirt and sediment. The rest burns your car paint and with their rags and brushes, they scratch your paint. So, how long do you think your ceramic coating is going to last ? Not long.
If you personally washing your car is out of the question…. because you are just a lazy shit…..and that is why you got a ceramic coating for, then your next best option it to bring out a mobile car detailer who can periodically wash and clean your car for you, and believe me, these guys for a simple wash n vac which is all you need to do a pretty good job while using the right equipment, Not Chinese mass imported car detailing shit that car washes use.
There is a difference to paying $120 dollars for a litre of Polish vs $70 dollars for a 20-litre drum of Chinese Polish. The best car detailers in Sydney do not use Chinese polishes. They are all quality name-brand products. Not even the best car detailers in Campbelltown us Chinese made rubbish.
Word of advice, some car detailers carry their own water, but this is recycled water. If they do this, tell them to use your tap water, not recycled water.
7. Schedule Regular Inspections
Even with proper care, minor imperfections can develop over time. Schedule periodic inspections with a professional car detailer to touch up any areas and maintain your car’s pristine condition.
Here at Dr Buff, we often recommend to our customers that they at least do a touch up coating on their cars between 12-24 months. Although ceramic coatings protect your car paint for up to five years, updating the coating periodically will kepp it looking its best for years and maintain maximum strength of the coating indefinitely, leaving your car shiny at all times.
When it comes to selling, it will look like a brand new car therefore maximising your dollar return. Talk to the best car detailing experts in Campbelltown
Why Maintenance Matters
Maintaining your car’s paint isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about protecting your investment and not just now but down the track as well. You want to be able to maximise your dollars when you sell it. Neglected paintwork can lead to costly repairs or repainting down the line. Personally, I always prefer professional paint correction compared to repainting before I sell a car, even if the paint does look like total crap. By following these tips by a professional….: you can enjoy a long-lasting, flawless finish that keeps your car turning heads from every angle, in every street, and in any city you drive through.
